So it finally happened... I cracked and made a DSMP shrine before a Fallen London one.

In case you skipped the warning, this page isn't going to be someone dunking the DSMP over and over again. This is a very very self-indulgent page which will talk good about this SMP and its characters and lore!

Also I think this shouldn't need to be said every time someone talks good about this thing:

How I Found the DSMP

It was early pandemic. A younger me was in a Discord server. I was talking to a certain friend and they told me about the DSMP, how much they loved it, and a fic they were reading about it. Not knowing how to continue the conversation, I asked about aforementioned fic and we had a good chat about it. It led to them sending me the fic (which is now lost to time). I had no intent of reading it. I heard about how terrible the larger fandom was, I refused to be part of them!

Three hours later, I'm bored as shit and I decide fuck it, let's read this fic. I never ended up finish the fic, but I did end up on a rabbithole of wikis and Twitter accounts and Tumblrs.

I was surprised to find that Quackity, my favourite childhood YouTuber, was part of this place. Technoblade Hypixel too. Two YouTubers I really liked but forgot about? Obviously, I had to look further into it. There's too much already so I doubt I'll get that into it.

I did in fact get that into it. I also found out the fandom isn't that terrible, though I still exaggerate about it today.

Was It That Good?

Honestly? Yeah.

There is only so much you could do with Minecraft roleplay (that mostly happened live and introvised mind you!) and it's surprising the CCs were even able to do a lot despite the limitations.

Honestly? What is there to say about c!Crimeboys that hasn't already been said?

These two, they were everything to me. You don't understand how nice it was to finally find a fandom which valued platonic and familial relationships as much as romantic and sexual ones. Imagine being me, aroace (though unaware) and unknowingly sick of how much romance was valued. I loved romantic shipping, still do, don't get me wrong. But damn did it get tiring having to deal with it constantly being shoved down my throat when sometimes a plotline would make more sense if the characters were friends.

Now picture this, you're me and you go into this big ol new media and you find out that there's two characters who are actually just best friends/brothers by bond for once?!

Of course, the DSMP fandom did focus on romance a bit more than platonic relationships (See: DreamNotFound). But the difference in attention was so much less compared to other fandoms. I think that's why I saw lots more aroace people in the DSMP fandom compared to other fandoms.

I remember once hearing that Wilbur saw L'manburg as an extension of Tommy back then. It was their thing and that makes me so upset. Schlatt slowly destroying L'manburg as its president while Wilbur was slowly destroying his brotherly relationship with Tommy as his leader. Wilbur causing the L'manburg explosion and cratering his country, totally crashing Tommy's view of him in the process. How Tommy loves L'manburg and hates how it ended up turning into nothing but smoldering ashes, how Tommy loves Wilbur and hates how he ended up turning into a shell of his former self.

None of this is worded right and I want to cry but this is the best I can do. I'm no wordsmith and I'm certainly no essay writer, but they deserve my best attempts at giving justice.

The Jackbox & Gartic Phone Streams

Fine. I'll admit it. I didn't care about just the characters. I also cared for the ccs and their (at least, public) relationship too.
I always loved the Jackbox streams, I still rewatch them when I'm crying and thinking of how things could have gone differently if the ccs weren't such shitty fucking people.
The Gartic Phone streams don't always hit as often as the Jackbox ones do, but when they hit... boy do they hit.
